07/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog:A1039298 Preston came into the care center as a stray, so we do not have any information on his past behaviors in a home. At intake Preston was reported to be very sociable and attention seeking, and was loose for all handling. During SAFER Preston was also very sociable and attention seeking, and attempted to lick the assessors face when greeting. Due to Preston’s medical condition the “tag” and “Paw squeeze” items could not be fairly conducted, but Preston allowed the assessor to conduct all other SAFER handling items without issue, and maintained a relaxed body posture. During the resources portion of the assessment Preston was easily pushed out of the food bowl when engaged with the food, and he was not interested in the toys or rawhide items. During the dog-dog interaction Preston approached the helper dog with his body not stiff, and appeared to be interested in interacting, but was not playful. Preston appears to be very sociable, and has not shown any behavioral concerns, so the department feels Preston can be suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Flank squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward.
