07/17/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Popper came into the care center as a stray, so we do not have any information on his past behaviors in a home. At intake, Popper was reported to have very high energy and jumped up on anyone who approached to solicit attention. He also applied light pressure to the counselor’s wrists several times, but was able to be redirected each time. Popper was also reported to become easily excitable during his medical exam, and During SAFER Popper was very active, and a bit difficult to position for the handling items. He allowed the assessor to conduct some handling items without issue when settled, but became stiff and uncomfortable during the paw handling. During the tag interaction Popper was a bit fearful, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash with a low body position. During the resources portion of the assessment Popper was stiff and could not be pushed out of the food bowl, but did not escalate to a snapping or growling, and he was not interested in the toys or rawhides. Popper Appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. He is also quick to use his mouth when interacting and has poor body awareness, resulting in him mouthing handlers with light pressure, but he is easily redirected. The department feels Popper would do best with an experienced adopter with no children. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is down body tense, mouth closed, lip long, ears back. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 3. Dog head flips while pulling back paw. Food: 3. Dog follows the dish, his tail is down, ears are forward. His body is stiff. Dog does not lift his head from the bowl when hand is applied to his cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: when off leash with other dogs, Popper is sexually motivated and will try to mount. He takes corrections well for a more assertive female and will engage in running play. High energy, tolerant and social.
07/15/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
