04/15/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
For a New Family to Know: Pop knows how to “sit” and “mind your business”. He is used to leashed walks, being off leash in parks, and playing in his yard for exercise. He is let out in his yard about 8am in the morning and is brought back inside about 2pm. He is also let back out into the yard one more time at night. His favorite toys are kongs and basketballs. His favorite game is wrestling. He has never been crate trained. When people are home usually is following the female owner. When he is left home alone and in the yard alone he is well behaved. When he is off leash he wanders some but comes back when called. He barks at loud noises such as thunder and fireworks. He is used to eating Baneful dry dog food. He was fed 1 1/2 cups of dog food twice a day. His favorite treat is bones. He likes to sleep anywhere there are people. Intake Behavior: Pop was panting heavily but approached everyone with a tongue out, loose body, and wagging tail. He was difficult to handle because of his strength but he allowed handling for collaring, scanning, and photos. He did not show any aggressive behaviors.
04/25/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Oh, Pop!! This guy is bursting at the seams with charm and good vibes! Not to mention, those seams are on the most adorable exterior – he’s short, stocky, cloaked in a brown that perfectly matches his eyes, and has a smile that’s hard to beat. He has previously lived harmoniously with children and is reported to be well-behaved when left alone. Pop solicits attention from his cage and is excited to go for walks, but is not a big puller. His former owner reports that he is very housebroken and whenever I walk him it’s clear he’ll hold it for as long as he can in his cage. He loves treats and knows “sit” (which if often of the adorable side-sit variety). I can’t imagine him being intrusive (I’m smitten!), but he also knows “mind your business.” Pop has been calm and seems friendly when we’ve seen other dogs, but in his previous home he was not welcoming of others in the yard. He is very friendly and easy going; he lets me pet him all over, isn’t mouthy or jumpy, and maintains a steady tail wag throughout or time together. He is confident and independent, but also affectionate and easy to connect with – quite the catch! Could Pop be your newest family member? He is waiting patiently at Brooklyn ACC!
04/21/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Pop was reported to be very friendly and affectionate with people of all ages, and according to the owner Pop was tolerant of the children in his households play. It was mentioned that Pop does not pay attention to dogs when for walks, but if a dog enters his yard, Pop will bark and growl. It was also mentioned that he is house trained and did not have accidents in the home. His activity level was said to be a medium, and the owners described him as playful, confident, excitable, affectionate, mellow, independent, and friendly. At intake Pop was reported to be sociable when greeting everyone, and was said to be difficult to handle due to his strength but he did allow some handling without issue. During SAFER Pop was sociable towards the assessor and had a relaxed body posture throughout the assessment. He allowed the assessor to conduct all handling items without issue, and was a bit distracted during the tag interaction. Pop was not interested in the food item, and was easy to handle when engaged with the toys and rawhides. Pop did not show any concerns on SAFER, but according to the owner Pop does not do well with other dogs, and has bitten a another dog in the past, so the department feels Pop would be best suited for an experienced adopter.
