SAFER: EXPERINECED HOME
Poochy came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Poochy was calm and allowed all handling. During SAFER Poochy came into the assessment room calm, he was social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Poochy was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment on food item Poochy eat faster and take bigger bites when attempting to remove his head out of the food bowl with his body tense, and he displayed no interest in toy and rawhide items. Poochy can be shy and timid at times and doesn’t like fast movements, so the behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter with no young children.
Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is tense and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.
Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw.
Squeeze 2:2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw.
Food: 3. Dog gulps food, begins to eat faster and with bigger bites, body stiff. He does not lift head when hand is applied to cheek.
Toy 1: No interest.
Rawhide: 1. No interest.
PLAYGROUP:
Poochy may greet other dogs briefly but is mostly focused on mounting when interacting with other dogs. Based on his behavior during playgroup, the Behavior Department recommends that Poochy can go to a home with both male and female dogs. Due to his sexually motivated behavior, we recommend he be placed with a tolerant dog who may offer correction for mounting.
When off leahs with other dogs Poochy mounts and is slow to respond to correction.
9/30 update: Poochy greets briefly, is sexually motivated and continues to attempt to mount after correction.
10/1 update: Poochy is sexually motivated and ignores correction.
