12/22/2014 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Poochie is a male, white and brown brindle Bull Terrier mix and he has energy to burn. He needs a home (no couch potatoes please) where he will be exercised regularly. Poochie can be shy around other dogs and needs to do a slow introduction with new dog friends. If you are interested in giving Poochie a forever home come to SIACC and meet him.
06/23/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Poochie came to our center as an owner surrender after breaking out of the house and biting a dog outside the home on two separate occasions. Owner reports Poochie lived with two dogs and got along with them, although it took 30 days for them to acclimate to each other. It is reported he is great with adults, children, and strangers. Poochie pulls hard on leash but was responsive to handling correction. Poochie held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, soft body. He leaned in, eyes and body soft, accepting the touch during Sensitivity item. Poochie followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body soft, settling easily at end of game. He did not pull back his paw on both Squeeze attempts. Poochie lifted his head out of the Food dish and ceased eating when approached by assess-a-hand. He had no interest in Toy and minimal interest in Rawhide. During dog-to-dog interaction, Poochie did not approach helper dog, his ears, tail, body neutral. It is the recommendation of the Behavior Department Poochie may be adopted by an Experienced owner who can introduce Poochie to other dogs slowly. A behavior modification program with an emphasis on desensitizing Poochie to dogs may be beneficial. He may also do well being the only dog. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push him out. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog may smell or lick, then turns away. Dog-dog: 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog, ears, tail, body neutral.
