11/03/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
11/03/15 13:19 Polo is a 2 year old male brindle and white american pitbull terrier who is being surrendered because the owner is moving and is not allowed to have him. Polo has been with his family since he was a puppy. Polo lived with 3 adults and no other animals. Polo gets his exercise from leash walks 3 times a day. When Polo encounters other dogs on leash he will make introduction and is curious. When he sees stray cats on the street he shows interest by pulling and is very alert. When strangers approach owner on the street Polo is not aroused but will bark if physical contact is made to the owner. When visitors come to the home he will greet them. Polo is house broken and does not have accidents inside. Polo is tolerant of a bath but may struggle and this is true for nail trims as well. Polo does not guard his food or treats but if his food is removed while eating owner states he will look to watch the food leave. If he is playing with toys he will get low if the owner moves to take it and will tug of war with it but will not snap or bite. Owner says it is best to let him play with his toys on his own. Polo does not like to go on beds or couches. He can be startled when being suddenly awoken. Polo likes a large rawhide bone. Plastic toys will be destroyed so owner does not use them. Polo likes to play half fetch with a ball. Polo knows the command sit and stop. When the family is home he likes to be where they are. When home alone he is well behaved. Polo likes a mix of wet and dry food. Upon intake Polo was anxious with whining for introduction but receptive. Polo was loose for handling and counselor was able to scan for microchip (negative) collar and photographed. Polo walked well on leash and was responsive o guidance but was easily aroused when meeting new people.

11/05/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Polo previously lived with 3 adults. The owner stated when he sees stray cats on the street he shows interest by pulling and is very alert. The owner mentioned Polo is house broken and well behaved when home alone. It was reported by the owner Polo can be startled when being suddenly awoken from his sleep and Polo will tend to destroy plastic toys. At intake it was reported Polo was anxious and whining but friendly, he was loose for all handling. Polo has dermatitis around his neck and down his back which may be painful. During SAFER Polo came into the assessment room calm, he was social and allowed petting. When attempting to collar Polo, Polo became uncomfortable and frustrated very quickly trying to increase distance between the assessor and himself. In addition, to this Polo would become very focused on the assessor with uncomfortable and tense body language. Because of the inability to collar Polo and the behaviors displayed the behavior department was not able to conduct any items of the SAFER. This behavior can be result of Polo’s rash around his neck and should be healed before a re-SAFER is attempted. Polo should be placed with New Hope partner that can provide all the behavior modification necessary before placement into a permanent home. When off leash with other dogs, Polo allows greeting but seems a bit uncomfortable. After the initial greeting, he becomes immediately and intensely sexually motivated.

11/04/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Polo allows greeting but seems a bit uncomfortable. After the initial greeting, he becomes immediately and intensely sexually motivated. 11/5 update: Polo allows greeting and may sniff briefly. He is sexually motivated but takes correction well.
