08/18/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/18/15 20:47 Behavior during intake: Polaris had a very relaxed body and wagging tail. She jumped up to greet and gave kisses. She allowed me to pet her, collar her and she wanted to play when I tried to leash her but sat when I asked and knew down when I said it. She showed no signs of aggression.
08/13/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Google Polaris and you’ll find that Polaris comes from the Latin meaning ‘heavenly’, and it’s the brightest star in the universe. Seriously, could our Polaris shine any brighter?? What a perfect name for this handsome boy. Impeccably groomed in his tan coat, his eyes look like they’ve been made up by the finest make up artist in NYC, and his weight is perfect for his size. He is indeed ‘heavenly’! Likely housetrained he went potty as soon as we were outside. Polaris pulls on the leash as we walk, looking up at every person he sees perhaps wondering if that person will be his new family, or perhaps looking for his old family. Happy to come into the backyard so we could play off leash, he loved playing with both a tennis ball and a plush toy, at one time figuring out how to get both in his mouth at the same time! Greeting other dogs in adjoining pens with an easy tail wag, in group play he’s social, greets appropriately and played well with another male. Affectionate and friendly, he can get a little mouthy when he gets excited but responds well to correction as he wags his tail with apologies… His “average” behavior assessment means he should be a good fit in just about any home, and he’s hoping that his new family will walk in the door any moment. Are you going to be the lucky person to bring him home? Meet Polaris, our brightest star, today.
08/12/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Polaris pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Polaris was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He took the toy away with a soft body language and was not interested in rawhide. Polaris did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1. No interest. When off leash with other dogs, Polaris is social, and engages in rough, vocal play.
