A volunteer writes:
Pitman won my ‘sweetest dog of the day award’… so soft and gentle, he’s clearly not had enough love in his life. I’m hoping we can change that for him. Far too thin and with his feet showing signs of being crated for way too many hours, Pitman has an adorable little square face with soft lips, confused and loving eyes, and a soft body that just wants to be close to his person. ‘Going’ as soon as we were out the door indicates he’s likely housetrained and as we walk down the street he stays close to my side. We’re feeding him an extra meal each day because he’s emaciated, and as hungry as he is he still takes treats so softly. Ignoring some small dogs we passed on our walk, we found a doorway to cuddle in, Pitman trembling with cold but posing for some pictures like a pro. In play groups he’s OK with other dogs, but would much rather be cuddling with the person in the group. His sweet little frowny face, his soft and quiet demeanor, his cuddly ‘all about love’ personality made me fall in love with him. And they all earned him a rockstar ‘average’ behavior rating meaning he’ll be a good fit in just about any home. He let me carry him back to the shelter as his feet were bothering him in the snow and ice. He’s all about love, and hopes that you’ll choose him to love best and forever. Ask to meet him today.

as per DVM start on doxycycline 100mg PO SID for 10 days

BEHAVIOR AVERAGE 2/09/15:
On 2/7/2015 Pitman came to us as a stray via our field unit. A staff member wrote “allows to be handled by adults and strangers”. The Assistant’s observations: friendly social; “zigzag” walking on leash to the assessment room. During the assessment Pitman appeared anxious (tail tucked), but friendly jumping up to lick the Assessor’s face. He allowed the Assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items and accepted handling very well. Pitman appeared more comfortable after the “tag” (play) assessment item. When pushed away by the “assess-a-hand”, Pitman did not lift his head from the food bowl. No other behavior issues; no aggression noted. Pitman is a very friendly dog who should be a good family pet. It is the Recommendation of the Behavior Department Pitman may be adopted by an average owner.

Look: 1 Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted.
Sensitivity: 1 Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, and open mouth.
Tag: 1 Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins.
Squeeze 1: 1 Dog does not respond at all for three seconds
Squeeze 2: 1 Dog does not respond at all for three seconds.
Food: 3 Dog follows the dish. Dog does not lift his head from the bowl when hand is applied to his cheek.
