11/17/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Pistachio came into our center as a stray so behavior in the home is unknown. Upon intake, Pistachio was extremely friendly and allowed all handling, sitting for his picture when asked to “sit” and showed no signs of aggression. He was nervous but allowed all handling during initial medical exam. Pistachio pulled hard on leash for his relief walk. He whined during some tactile portions of SAFER, and barked at the gate at end of assessment. Pistachio allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body soft, whining. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body soft, whining. He was distracted and unresponsive during Tag game, focused on other stimuli. Pistachio did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze items. He had no interest in Toy. Pistachio approached the helper dog a bit quickly, ears forward, tail above spine level. The Behavior Team feels Pistachio would do best with an Experienced adopter. He may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners, as well as daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of exercise, play, and calm petting to aid in quelling any anxiousness. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, whining, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, whining, body soft, mouth closed. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game with coaxing. He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward.
