12/09/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Pirata came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Pirata was relaxed with loose body posture, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Pirata came into the assessment room with high energy, he was friendly and playful towards the assessor then started to mouth the leash before look item was attempted. Pirata at this time became difficult to handle and place into position for most of the handling items. Pirata wouldn’t allow the handler to attempt paw squeeze due to him being focus on mouthing the leash throughout the assessment very strongly. He takes quite a while to de-escalate and intervention is needed to guide him to more appropriate behaviors. Pirata showed some concerning behavior on the toy test as well of freezing and growling but did not snap at or bite the assess-a-hand. Due to all behaviors displayed while in our care the behavior department believes that Pirata would be best placed with an experienced owner without children who can provide any behavior modifications necessary. The behavior department also recommends that an adopter be able to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body tense, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, mouths the leash and slowly de-escalates. Toy 1: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Pirata engages in rough, running play and is energetic and pushy while playing. He may becomes sexually motivated but takes correction well.
12/02/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Pirata engages in rough play with both males and females. He is pushy and energetic when playing and may status seek with some male dogs. Based on his behavior during playgroup, the Behavior Department recommends that Pirata can go to a home with a female dog and may be placed with a male dog but we recommend that a pre-adoption interaction be required. Pirata is very high energy and pushy when playing so we recommend placing him with other energetic, playful dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Pirata greets politely and engages in brief bouts of bouncy play. He is sexually motivated but takes handler correction well. 12/3 update: Pirata is a bit forward when greeting but will engage briefly in bouncy play. He may become sexually motivated but takes correction well. 12/4 update: Pirata is forward when greeting and is sexually motivated but takes correction well. He is tolerant when a female becomes assertive and attempts to mount. 12/6 update: Pirata greets exhuberently but appropriately. He is high energy and can be somewhat obnoxious in his play solicitation. 12/8 update: Pirata engages in rough, running play and is energetic and pushy while playing. He may become sexually motivated but takes correction well. 12/9 update: Pirata greets politely and engages in rough play with other playful males. He may status seek briefly with another male and will offer a strong correction when that male becomes too forward. 12/10 update: Pirata engages in rough, energetic play with another playful male. He can be pushy and mouthy when playing.
