09/08/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Pippy came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER Pippy came into the assessment room timid and nervous, he was not interested with the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Pippy was fearful and unresponsive during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Pippy was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Pippy appears to be very timid with low body posture and has been showing fearful behavior and avoids interaction in the care center. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Pippy is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. We recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Pippy be given the opportunity to interact at his own pace, so the behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter with no children. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body tense, mouth closed. Tag: 2. Dog is fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is likely crouching, and lip lick. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog is tense in body and eye, and moves his legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Food: 1. No interest Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy or rawhide, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Pippy may greet the other dogs briefly but mostly keeps to himself.
09/03/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs Pippy allows greeting but will then sit on the bench. He is interested in the helper dog when she approaches but he does not engage when she walks away. 9/4 update: Pippy tolerates interaction and may greet the other dogs briefly before moving away to sit on the bench. 9/8 update: Pippy may greet the other dogs briefly but mostly keeps to himself. 9/9 update: Pippy greets well and is interested but does not engage in play. He is tolerant of mounting. 9/10 update: Pippy greets the other dogs politely before moving off to explore his surroundings. 9/11 update: Pippy greets well and will briefly solicit brief bouts of play. He is tolerant of mounting.
