08/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Piper came into the facility as a stray, so we do not have any information on her past behaviors in a home. At intake it was noted that Piper maintained a loose body posture and wagging tail when interacting with the counselors, and allowed all handling. During SAFER Piper was sociable towards the assessor, and allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. During the tag interaction Piper was a bit distracted, but with coaxing she followed the assessor at the end of the leash. During the resources portion of the assessment Piper was stiff and took bigger bites, not allowing the assessor to push her head out of the food bowl. When engaged with the toys and rawhides Piper was loose and wiggly, but did not relinquish the toys or rawhides to the assessor. Piper appears to be social, but also shows potential for possessive behavior over food, and would be best suited for an experienced adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, and a bit distracted Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food: 3. Dog gulps food, begins to eat faster and with bigger bites, body stiff. She does not lift head when hand is applied to cheek. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Piper tolerant of other dogs and greets other dogs politely. She is more interested in interacting with the handlers.
