I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 08/25/2015 from NY 11232, owner surrender reason stated was OWNER SICK. I came in with Group/Litter #K15-029130.

08/25/15 12:14 Littermates: Pinto: A1049109 Lady May: A1049110 Basic Information: Pinto and Lady May “Lady” are 1 year old American Pit Bull Terriers. They were born together from the same mother. The owner received the dogs from the previous owner and is forced to surrender them because of his recent dingoes. Lady and Pinto has no known health problems or injuries. Social Life and Personality: Pinto and Lady have not been socialized with children or cats to know their behavior with them. Pinto and Lady are relaxed and exuberant/somewhat rough during play with each other. They bark at other dogs that walk by their home but they have not socialized with other dogs. They are house trained and do not have accidents outside. They are kept mostly indoors and have a high activity level. Behavior: Pinto and Lady are not bothered when someone touches their food bowl when eating, removed from furniture, held, or woken up. They are friendly when someone takes away their toys, when brushed, and when strangers approach their home and family. They are afraid of baths and whine during them. For a New Family to Know: Pinto and Lady know they command down. They are used to leashed walks and playing in a fenced in yard twice a day. They enjoy playing with squeaky toys. They have not been crate trained. They are well behaved when left home alone and in the yard. They are nervous of loud noises such as thunder or fireworks. They are used to easting dry dog food twice a day. They sleep in the bed with their owner. Intake Behavior: Pinto and Lady were whining throughout the intake. They allowed handling for photos, collaring, and scanning. They did not show aggressive behavior but they were continued whining and barking.

Pinto previously lived with 1 adult and another dog. The owner stated Pinto is relaxed and exuberant/somewhat rough during play with the other dog. The owner mentioned Pinto is house trained and have a high activity level. It was also reported by the owner Pinto is well behaved when left home alone and in the yard. At intake Pinto was whining and didn’t show any signs of aggression, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Pinto came into the assessment room with relax body posture, he was friendly and attention seeking towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Pinto was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Pinto was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Pinto appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. No interest.

When off leash with other dogs, Pinto greets the other dog politely but spends most of his time exploring his surroundings. 8/28 update: Pinto is social and playful, engaging in running play with both males and females. He is tolerant of mounting but will offer correction to a pushy female. He is a potential greeter dog. 8/29 update: Pinto is social and greets other dogs politely.
