05/02/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: What I wouldn’t give to wake up to this smiling face every day! Pier saw me enter the building, sat up, tail wagging and gave me his best and brightest smile. Absolutely stunning in his lush orange coat, his grooming is meticulous, his weight perfect for his size and his puppy waddle as he walks stole my heart. Easily leashed we head out the door, Pier going potty as soon as he found the perfect spot. He pulls on the leash until he ‘goes’ and then settles into a nice walk. Very responsive on leash, he follows my slightest pull on leash to change direction. As a group of school children passed, Pier watched them standing gently by my side, and as his eyes went from face to face his tail wagged softly. He seems to know about and like children. Back in the building he greeted the other dogs we passed as if assuring them that their turn was coming. So sweet. In the backyard he shows me his sit, softly takes his reward treats and poses for pictures like a pro. He does a sideways sit like a puppy, tilts his head when I make kissy sounds at him, and then joins me on the bench for lots of cuddles. The lucky person who gets to call Pier theirs has a lifetime of kisses and great cuddles in front of them, and what could be better than that? Pier is an English name that means ‘rock’; Pier will be that rock solid friend always by your side ready to listen to your thoughts and love you unconditionally. He’s an awesome dog waiting for his new family. Ask to meet him today.

Pier pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. Pier was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. Pier was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. Pier was not interested in toys but took the rawhide with a soft body language. Pier rushed in quickly during the dog-dog test, but showed no aggression. Pier is an active dog he need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation.
