PICCA – A1032866
Safe 4-24-2015 Brooklyn
SUPER URGENT – 04/24/15
Picca is a sweetheart, she has all the stuff that people love about Staffies, plus the added pleasure of a smaller size. Picca is only forty one pounds, a pretty gray and white coat covers her smaller frame. Picca is rated experienced, but a closer look shows she did quite well on her SAFER. The NYCACC has decided to destroy Picca tomorrow for a cold. Please sound the horns for this cute dog, she needs to find a foster or adopter by noon tomorrow. Please share, advocate, and pledge to help save this little stray from the ravages of animal control.

04/15/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Picca came in as a stray surrender, so her past behavior in a home is unknown. She was reported to be shy upon intake and needed a slow approach for handling. During SAFER Picca was nervous when entering the assessment room, but greeted with a low tail wag and licked the assessor’s hands. She allowed the assessor to conduct all SAFER handling items, but her body was tense, and she needed a very slow approach when movements were made around her head and neck area. Picca was playful during the tag interaction, and playfully mouthed the leash, but stopped when the game ended. She was easy to handle when engaged with the food item, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Picca was also easy to handle when playing with the toys, and relinquished the item without issue. Her body was loose when chewing on the rawhide, but she would not relinquish the item, and placed her body between assessor and rawhide. Picca can be shy and has shown some discomfort with some handling, so the department feels Picca would be best suited for an experienced adopter, and a slow approach is recommended during introductions. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs her shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand, with loose body and licks hands while lips are long. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Dog playfully mouths the leash Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand (applies mild pressure). Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against her cheek. Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the rawhide, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Picca is bouncy and will offer play bows to the other dog. She engages in running play.
