A volunteer writes: Adopted from us many years ago and recently surrendered due to family changes it’s clear to see that Petey was a much loved member of the family. So much so that we’re told that he slept under the covers with his person. We’re also told that he’s very housetrained, relaxed, playful and tolerant of children, gets along with other dogs, loves to cuddle up with the family to watch TV, plays chase and tug, loves to swim and play fetch in the water, knows ‘sit’, ‘paw’, ‘other paw’, ‘speak’ and ‘catch’ and loves boiled eggs as a treat. He lived with a rabbit and would gently nudge him to play. Petey has recently been showing some anxiety in the home, startled by loud noises, by the new baby crying, the cell phone ringing etc. I met Petey first as he was playing fetch with a staff person who loves him…..his game is perfection, and when he brings the ball back he’ll drop it and sometimes nudge it with his nose to remind his person it’s time to pick it up and throw it again. Too cute! He’s awesome on leash, an absolute joy to walk and I found him as gentle as can be. Petey is gorgeous, well behaved, gentle and sweet. He needs a quiet adult home in which he can snuggle on the couch with his person, helping to watch a favorite TV show. A game of fetch is good exercise and fun, and should be on the daily to do list as well. Petey is hoping that a new family will find him and open their hearts to him. Don’t make him wait.
Petey’s family got him from a breeder 8y ago. They surrendered him due to behavior issues and because they have a new baby.
Petey is friendly/outgoing w/ strangers. He’s relaxed, playful, and tolerant w/ children. He plays exuberantly w/ adults and children. He’s relaxed, playful, tolerant, and plays exuberantly w/ other dogs. He recently lived w/ his brother who sometimes growled at him; Petey would walk away and avoid him. By himself, he’s relaxed w/ dogs he meets on walks and plays well at the dog park. However, on walks with his brother, he barks and growls at other dogs. Petey tries to chase cats he sees outside. He lived w/ a rabbit and was relaxed and playful w/ him, gently sniffing and nudging him. Petey has never bit any people or animals.
Petey is sometimes destructive while alone and is startled by cell phone rings and the baby’s vocalizations (see behavior memo). Petey doesn’t mind storms. He’s friendly w/ strangers who approach his home/family. He enjoys being bathed (with the hose) and brushed. He doesn’t mind when someone takes his food/treat/toy, moves him off furniture, holds/restrains him, or wakes him up. He’s nervous during nail trims.
Petey’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable, anxious, needy, and medium-high energy. He follows his family and literally cuddles up in their laps and watches TV with them. He likes stuffed and squeaky toys. Petey like to play fetch, chase, and tug, and loves to swim and play fetch in the water. He lived inside and slept under the covers w/ his owner. He was free fed dry Beneful food. He got Rollhide Busy Bones and boiled eggs as treats. He’s very well housetrained, potties anywhere outside, and never has accidents. He knows sit, paw, other paw, speak, and catch. He went for slow walks and played in his yard and at the dog park. He pulls on his leash when he sees other dogs.
