03/21/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I love that intake staff named this sweet girl Perfection…..as she is. Quietly resting in her arrival kennel all day, I finally had the opportunity to spend some time with her. She’s underweight so is being fed an extra meal each day to help her gain some weight, which should also help her coat regain some fullness and luster. She is a classic case of physical neglect, yet her personality and demeanor is sweet and loving. Her leash manners are excellent, and because she’s so thin and it was getting cold she let me put a coat on her. Going potty as soon as we were out the door indicates she’s likely housetrained. Clearly hungry, Perfection was nonetheless gentle in taking treats from my hand, sitting for them when asked. Even when at full weight, Perfection will be petite as her frame is small and elegant. Sweet, friendly, low key and calm, Perfection is looking for a home in which she will be loved for ever and ever. She’s easy to love, trust me.
03/19/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Perfection walks with a bit fearful body language on leash. She was not sociable, and was more interested in the surroundings than the handler during the assessment. Perfection was shy and nervous and trembled during handling, with fearful body language. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. She ate faster, was stiff and very difficult to push out of the food bowl, but did not growl, snap or bite. Perfection was not interested in toys but took the rawhide away; body language was a bit stiff. She does not approach other dog, turns body to side. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter with no children. This dog is somewhat fearful and because she is a bit underweight she was gulping and took the rawhide with a bit stiff body but was easily to handle. NOTE (from 1075) : Perfection came to us emaciated and forages the ground for food whenever out walking. When she finds any she eats it very fast. She was given an ice block in her kennel for enrichment recently that can only be eaten slowly. Perfection was displaying potential possessive behavior over the ice block when staff tried to remove her from the cage while she was eating it. Until she is comfortable knowing food will always be available, the Behavior Team does not recommend giving Perfection things to chew/eat that take an extended periord of time i.e. kongs, rawhide, etc. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, shy body language , mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food 3. Dog follows the dish, her tail between her legs, ears are forward. Her body is stiff. Dog does not lift her head from the bowl when hand is applied to her cheek. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is stiff. Dog – dog 1. Dog approaches the helper, soft body, tail neutral, but not playful. Helper: A1030512
