Poor, sweet, obedient Peaches has been through hell and back and looking at her emaciated body, mangy skin and infected, near-blind eyes it’s hard not to be angry at the humans who neglected her so badly over so many years. Used as a puppy producer then tossed to the curb when she ‘aged out’ of motherhood, Peaches has every right to be angry at our kind but like so many love-starved dogs she’s the exact opposite, an absolute angel and nothing but gentle, calm and eager to please. Happy to be petted, hugged and kissed, she’s grateful for the smallest kindness and of course LOVES her food, sitting on command and mouthing treats ever so softly (she has only a few teeth) from my hand before snuffling the ground for more. Her feet are swollen and the nails overgrown so when it comes to walking Peaches can be a bit reluctant but no hay problema — I simply heft her over my shoulder and away we go, her arms clinging tightly to my own and her face nuzzled into my neck. Peaches does seem to have some vision as she never bumps into walls, comes when called and recognizes when you are standing in front of her and when she does walk it’s with a slow, calm pace. Other dogs are acknowledged in a friendly way but Peaches is too fragile and focused on simply surviving for any rough’n’tumble play time just yet. She may look ancient but our staff believe this darling girl is only 7 years old and with time and plenty of TLC Peaches could still blossom into the happy beauty she was always meant to be..I think there might even be an adorable eye patch hiding under that mange! If anyone deserves a happy ending it’s Peaches, open your home and heart to her today and learn what unconditional love truly means…
