08/08/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Oso walks calmly on leash. He may be house trained – toileted immediately when taken outside. Oso was stiff and did not show social behavior during the assessment. Oso was uncomfortable with handling; he stands tall, sometimes on his tiptoes, and tries to look large. His hair was standing up along his back. He makes direct eye contact. Oso wrinkles his muzzle to expose his front teeth. He was growling loudly and preparing to lunge forward. We decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Oso growled and bit the assess-a-hand during the food bowl test, then continued guarding the food after the assessor moved away. He snapped at the assess-a-hand during the toy and rawhide test. Oso approaches the helper dog with his tail at spine level, body not stiff and lip long. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 5. Dog freezes and growls Food: 5. Dog tries to bite. Toy: 4 Dog growls and snap Rawhide: 4. Dog growls and snap. Dog-dog: 2.
