A shelter staff member writes:
This is Oreo’s third time at AC&C through no fault of his own! Oreo was surrendered this past weekend because his owner had a family conflict, and feared for Oreo’s safety in his home. Oreo has been understandably uncomfortable since coming back into the shelter. He was a very social and mellow guy during his previous stays, but has become tense and shy this time around. He was fearful during his SAFER, and did not tolerate being touched on his hind end. According to his former owner, Oreo was playful and affectionate when relaxed and in his home, and was even tolerant of the resident cat! Oreo has also lived with other dogs (pictured below with a former housemate), and has been great in playgroup! He is crate trained, well behaved when left alone, and even knows a few commands. Oreo will likely do best with an experienced owner who can give him the time he needs to adjust to yet another unfamiliar environment. With some TLC and patience, I’m sure Oreo will become the fantastic companion we all know he can be! Please help Oreo finally find his forever family, and pull him from BACC today!

SAFER:
Oreo came to us as an owner surrender on 5/2/15. It was reported by the previous owner that Oreo has lived with three adults and has been around children of all ages. He is recorded to be playful and respectful towards everyone he meets. The owner also said that Oreo is a dog with a high activity level, that plays gently with other dogs that he meets in dog parks. Upon intake Oreo had loose body language and allowed all handling. Oreo displayed very fearful body language when coming into the behavior room, and had his tail tucked tight to his body. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items, but maintained very fearful body language throughout the assessment. On the last item for the Flank section Oreo became very frightened and tried to bite the assessor. He only displayed minimal interest in the food and toy items, but showed no interest in the rawhide on this portion of the assessment. The behavior department believes that Oreo is not thriving in the shelter environment, and would be best placed with a rescue that can provide positive experiences and behavior modification.
