11/05/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Oreo previously lived with 2 adults, a cat and has been around 3 children. The owner stated Oreo is relaxed and tolerant around children and the cat; she is not bothered when the children pull on her tail or jump on her. It was reported by the owner Oreo doesn’t play with other dogs and when she sees another dog she will bark, lunge and attempt to get off leash. The owner mentioned Oreo is house trained, well behaved when home alone and has a high activity level. The owner also stated Oreo is fearful of having her paws touched and will pull away instantly if her paws are touched. At intake it was reported Oreo was calm and was loose for all handling. During SAFER Oreo came into the assessment room calm and quiet, she was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Oreo was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Oreo was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Based on her behavior in playgoup, the Behavior Department recommends that Oreo not be placed into a home with any other dogs at this time. She may need an intensive training protocol to help desensitize her before she can socialize properly with other dogs. Therefore the Behavior Department recommends Oreo be placed with a New Hope partner only. (Please refer to Group Behavior notes.) Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 4. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand with a very fast head movement. If able, she muzzle punches the hand. Her body is stiff and she has a closed mouth with a short lip. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Toy: 1. No interest.
11/04/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Based on her behavior during playgroup, the Behavior Department recommends that Oreo not be placed into a home with any other dogs at this time. She may need an intensive training protocol to help desensitize her before she can socialize properly with other dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Oreo is hard barking and snapping at the fence so she is muzzled. Once in the pen, she becomes offensive and charges the helper dog and attempts to jump on them.
