A volunteer writes: I met Oreo few months ago. A very handsome Husky reunited with his family after being lost…Sadly, the same family became homeless and Oreo is back with us at the care center. He has been beautifully cared for and looks absolutely magnificent and healthy. The perfect weight. The lushest coat….Oreo has a wonderful personality. He is friendly and sociable and I remember him being quite good in playgroup with other dogs back in January. He walks nicely on the leash, does his business without marking, sits on command and responds immediately to the call of his name. He is not at all skittish like so many Huskies I have known. He meets other pooches, big and small in the street in the most civil way. He is a good “cuddler” and sits on the sidewalk, between my legs for a petting session. Whoever will get the chance to own Oreo and give him the opportunity to start his life all over again, will be a lucky master…Sweet Oreo who wears well his name, is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center.
04/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Oreo pulls a bit on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. He was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. Oreo was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He showed some concerning behavior during the food bowl, toy and rawhide test – stiffening and growling, but did not snap at or bite the assess-a-hand. Oreo was relaxed when approaching a friendly dog, but was not playful. Oreo is a very active and jumpy dog. He shows some guarding issues during the food bowl, toy and rawhide test. He need an adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification . The behavior department feels that he can go to an experience no child home. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Toy: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Rawhide: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Dog – dog: 1. Dog approaches the helper, soft body, tail neutral, but not playful. Helper:A1032150
