Oreo’s people are moving to a place where dogs aren’t welcome, so for this fun-loving, affectionate boy that means a return visit to the Care Center he knows only too well (he previously stopped by after staging a ‘great escape’ beneath his yard fence!) Some dogs would be depressed over this sad turn of events but not Oreo, he’s extra playful, super excited to go for a walk and even more in love with his fellow dogs than ever. His former owners left wonderful notes about his personality and his behavior assessment is flawless too, Oreo’s just a great family dog who can’t wait to belong to a family once more. We’re told he lived in gentle harmony with two children (ages 3 and 9), enjoyed regular play dates with a Pittie girlfriend and that he’s ‘quiet and mellow at home’ and ‘soft at heart’. Oreo knows commands for ‘sit’, ‘stop’ and ‘down’, he’s said to be house trained (amply proven during our walk) and he loves to play, play, play before settling down to receive petting and treats. Apparently this easy-going guy even likes taking a bath! His handsome coat may be a bit worse for wear but a vet visit and some TLC will soon return Oreo to his original ebony magnificence and of course, his beautiful soul smiles out as brightly as ever. Oreo is home, kid and dog tested and approved, already neutered and ready to leave immediately. If you’ve got the energy to match his bouncy exuberance and the heart to return his endless supply of love then don’t wait a minute more, bring home a sweet treat the whole family can enjoy by asking for Oreo today!
BEHAVIOR 4/02/15:
Oreo was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. He was calm and relaxed during handling; he allowed for easy positioning throughout the assessment items. Oreo engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open. He was very playful with the toy, he kept a firm grip on the toy but his body remained loose and wiggly. Oreo did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He kept a firm grip on rawhide but his body remained loose and wiggly.
Oreo was relinquished to the care center after living with his owner for over a year. His previous owners noted that he lived with two children and was relaxed, playful, tolerant, and played gently with them. When Oreo played with a female dog, his owners described his play as relaxed, playful, tolerant, and played exuberantly with her. The owners stated that he is friendly with strangers, is house trained, and would describe Oreo as “friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, mellow, medium activity, and soft at heart.” Throughout the assessment Oreo remained playful but calmed easily and was social with the assessor. He was easy to handle while eating and, while he did keep a firm grip on the toy and rawhide, his body language remained loose and wiggly. The Behavior Department believes Oreo can go to an average home.
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is wagging with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc.
Squeeze1& 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push him out.
Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy.

09/26/2014 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog: A1014470 Oreo pulls on the leash and was more interested in the surroundings than the handler during the assessment. He was focused on objects in the room during handling and became over aroused during the tag interaction, grabbing the leash and did not calm down easily. He did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He put his body between the assessor and toy, showing no growling or stiffness and showed minimal interest in rawhides. Oreo rushed in during the dog-dog test, but showed no aggression. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog is active and focused on the Assessor and all other stimuli available. His body is soft, likely panting, likely to display high movement between attempts. Tag: 3. Dog is easily aroused, body tense. Dog mouths the leash with moderate pressure. Ears erect and high tail wag. Squeeze 1/2: 2. Dog mouths the Assessor’s hand with mild pressure. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away. Toy: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog may smell or lick, then turns away. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward.
