04/04/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/04/15 09:58 Basic Info: Oasis is a 1 1/2 year old dog who has no prior injuries or medical problems. He was surrendered due to possible aggression issues. Social life and personality: According to the owner he was living with three children (all 4 years old), a shih tzu, and a cat and was respectful, relaxed, and very playful with all three of them. He showed no aggression towards any of them and did not seem effected by the loud noises and constant movement all made. He is house trained, kept mostly indoors, and has a high level of energy. Behavior: He has no bitten anyone or any animal before. Owner stated she was able to take food and toys away from him and he was either not bothered of friendly, trying to play. When unfamiliar people approach the house he will bark and approach gently but when unfamiliar people approach outside he will lunge towards them and bark. New Family Info: He knows the commands sit, stay, and come. He plays with squeaky and rope toys, has been crate trained but does not need it anymore, and follows owner around the home. He is not bothered by loud noises and was fed dry food. He slept inside his crate with the door open for him to choose when he wants to go in and out. Intake Behavior: During intake would approach extended hand and sniffed it, Allowed to be scanned (negative), collared, pictured, leashed, aged (by checking back teeth), and touched without aggression. When given treats took gently from hand and when touched had soft relaxed body. When told to sit and stay responded to commands. When sitting in the lobby was calm and relaxed when people or animals passed by. Inside the admissions office he reflected the same behaviors

A volunteer writes: I admit it, I like a guy who puts his paw on my leg and leaves it there while we hang out on a park bench, so needless to say I love Oasis. This lanky black beauty was surrendered by an owner who reports he lived with a cat, a dog, and a child, and he has aced his behavior test here, moving right on up to adoptions. Oasis will continue to thrive in an active home that offers up half as much love as he is prepared to give back, and lets him stretch his gorgeous long legs on walks or in the dog run. Come meet this sweet pup! Another volunteer writes: Oasis is as refreshing as his name, a fun and friendly young lad who’s eager to please and chock full of the best kind of playful energy. He loves everyone no matter their size, shape or species and if you’re very lucky he might just share some kisses to show his appreciation! Much as he enjoys socializing with people it’s clear that dogs are Oasis’ favorite playmates and when one enters the pen next door he’s practically glued to the gate, all tail wags and butt wiggles as he whines and tries to ‘dig’ his way through to the other side. Oasis already knows commands for sit and stay, mouths treats nicely from my hand and seems to be very house trained, taking care of his business immediately and often. Though he pulls a bit on leash, a harness soon curbs his enthusiasm and he’s very responsive to my voice and will even wait on command — what a good boy! Young, well-trained family dogs don’t come any more gorgeous than this guy so don’t miss your chance — Welcome Oasis home today!
04/06/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Oasis came to our center as an owner surrender citing aggressive behavior. The owner was unclear and nonspecific, saying he has never bitten anyone or any other animal. It is reported he lived with three 4 year old children, a small dog, and a cat with no incidents. During the assessment there were no aggressive behaviors witnessed. Oasis pulled on leash and is very high energy. Oasis held gaze with the assessor for three full seconds during Look item, with soft body. He accepted all tactile portions of the assessment somewhat cautiously, but allowed all handling. Oasis jumped up on assessor in between items three separate times, chewing leash and humping a little roughly. He followed the food dish and allowed his cheeks to be pushed out with some pressure. At first he was not interested in the toy and required some interaction to warm him up, but eventually played with the toy and relinquished it easily. He enjoyed the rawhide and kept a firm grip on it, but body was loose and wiggly. The Behavior Team feels Oasis would do well in an Average home that can give him daily exercise in the form of walks/runs/play and enrichment in the form of rawhides/kongs/rope toys to positively direct his high energy. He may also benefit from obedience classes to learn basic leash manners. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body a bit stiff, mouth closed, ears back. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog sniffs hand. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1: 1. Dog will relinquish toy to you. Rawhide: 1. Dog keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward.
