10/21/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog: A1055101 Nya previously lived with 4 adults and had 2 children who visit often a 1 month old and 9 year old. The owner stated Nya have not spent much time with them to know her behavior with them. The owner mentioned Nya has lived with a small dog and was relaxed and gentle during play with the small dog, but when she see cats outside she will give them a chase. It was reported by the owner Nya is house broken, has a medium activity level and is well behaved when home alone. At intake it was reported Nya was hiding under the chair, she did not want to walk on the leash; no handling was conducted at the moment. During SAFER Nya came into the assessment room nervous and skittish, not all handling items were able to be conducted as Nya freezes and lips curls at the assessor on the Look item. She displayed no interest in any of the resource items during this portion of the assessment. When on leash for a dog interaction with another dog on leash Nya approaches the helper dog with her tail well above spine, hackles up with her body tense. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 5. Dog freezes and lip curls. Food: 1. Inconclusive dog is not eating. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 3. Dog approaches the helper dog with her tail high, tense body, head tall, and ears erect.
