10/31/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Nostrum came to us as a stray on 10/22/15. She was very interested in interacting with the handler when taken out of his kennel and walked calmly on the leash. When entering the behavior room Nostrum displayed this same behavior with the assessor though she was a bit shy. She allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items while maintaining soft body language. Nostrum a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. She proved easy to handle when chewing on the toy and rawhide items on this portion of the assessment. The behavior team believes that Nostrum can go home with an adopter that has an average amount of dog experience. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. She indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide. Dog – dog 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip long.
