08/27/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/27/15 15:05 Basic information Nina A1049378 and Brewster A1049379 were left in the finders home. He was renting out a back room to dog’s owner. The owner left the house and said he will be back for the dogs. He has been gone for a month and has not returned. Behavior during intake The finder describes Nina And Brewster as friendly and affectionate. They have been in his home for a month and he was feeding them dry food purina. They sleep in the back room and play together. Both dogs allowed handling. They were friendly with staff members and took treats. They both sat patiently for their pictures and tolerated petting.
WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: This is the face of despair. This is the face of a dog who has shut down in order to protect herself. This is the face of a dog who wants to feel love, to feel safe, to feel something….anything…..When her owner left her and her Chihuahua buddy with a friend, he promised he’d be back for them. He broke his promise and never came back. The friend said Nina is affectionate and friendly, and our intake staff said the same. Fast forward a few days and Nina keenly feels her abandonment. She’s in a kennel, dogs are barking loudly on either side of her….she’s not home, she’s not with her Chihuahua friend, she’s not with anything or anyone she knows. She trembles in her kennel, but lets me sit with her petting her, stroking her, trying to make her feel a little bit safe…a little bit of love. She takes treats from my fingers, and closes her eyes as I stroke her, even putting her head down at one point trying to relax. I can’t get her to come out of her kennel, and don’t want to force her. Instead, we sit, we chat, we share some love…we share a moment. Never once showing any aggression, its clear she enjoys my company. Nina needs a new friend, a person she can love, a person she can trust, a person she can share her life with. I don’t know too much about her, but I do know this….she’s sweet, scared and in need of a hero tonight.
09/01/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Nina walks with a low body language. She was fearful and attempted to get away from the handler during some items of the assessment. Nina was shy and nervous during handling, with fearful body language. Nina becomes extremely frightened during the tag interaction, tail tucked, and trying to exit room. She became stiff and uncomfortable (freeze) during paw handling. We decided to do the flank and Nina was a bit stiff and he moved away from the assessor. She was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. Nina approaches the helper dog with his body not stiff, tail at spine level, lip long. The behavior department feels that she would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 3.
