07/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
It has been observed that Panda has been constantly growling and lunging in his kennel at passerbys, which seems to be a consistent behavior. In addition, Panda has come to us with a previous bite history though we do not have much information on how the bite occured. 7/20/15 Panda came to our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. The Finder stated he walked over while Finder was walking their own dog. Finder reports on the way to the shelter he was growling, lunging, and snapping at people. Panda also growled and lunged at the admissions counselor upon intake, but was responsive to treats. Afterwards, the Finder pulled him back by leash and he went back to lunging at the counselor. Panda pulled slightly, but walked nicely overall on his relief walk. He held gaze for three full seconds with his head cupped in assessor’s hands. NIckelson wagged his tail, standing still to accept the touch during Sensitivity item. He was distracted and unresponsive during Tag game, but approached assessor at the end when coaxed. Panda did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts, low wag. He flinched at first pass of Assess-a-hand, then lifted his face out of the Food bowl when it was applied to his cheek. Panda had no interest in Toy. He took Rawhide away from assessor, body a bit stiff. Based on Finder’s surrender profile, and Panda’s behaviors during intake, the Behavior Team feels he would do best with an Experienced adopter with no children. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is wagging with relaxed body posture. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game with coaxing. He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not pull back paw, tail low wag. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold.
