09/30/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Barking boldly in his kennel to let me know he was ready for a walk, Niagara is leashed easily and out we go. Using ‘the facilities’ promptly and often (he had been holding it for a long time), made me feel bad that I hadn’t taken him out earlier. His leash manners are good making it a pleasant walk for both of us. Niagara doesn’t seem to have much experience with people or other dogs and will need a committed, experienced person to help him transition into a canine companion.
09/30/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Niagara walks calmly on leash. He lunges at the assessor when he tries to put the collar for the assessment. He did not show any social behavior. He stands tall and makes direct eye contact and exposes his front teeth. The behavior team decided skips the handling. During was not interested in the toys or rawhide but he was very stiff and cannot be pushed out of the food bowl, but did not growl, snap or bite. According to staff member he was fine walking on leash, he is housetrained, but when he touched him at the end of our time he growled and pulled towards him. He also seems to not like other dogs at all. He was easy being leashed even though he barks up in his kennel, and was also fine going back in”. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Food: 3. Dog follows the dish, his tail between his legs, ears are forward. His body is stiff. Dog does not lift his head from the bowl when hand is applied to his cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest.
