07/24/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Nene was difficult to remove from his kennel showing teeth, snapping at the rope. He did not show any social behavior. Once he was out of the kennel Nene is fearful of the shelter environment he walks with a low and fearful body language. He is fearful of the shelter noises and tries to hide behind the handler or object. During the look item he freezes abd do not let the assessors handle him. We stopped the handling part for safety reason and moved on with the resources. Nene was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. He does not approach other dog, attempts to exit. Nene was surrender to us. According to the owner Nene is used to being around children but doesn’t really allow them to play with him. He is very respectful of other dogs and he is used to having other dogs and cats around. He has not been around cats for about a year. He loves a good stuffed toy. When his owner is home, Nene will probably be in the same room”. During the intake he did not allow for a collar. He did attempt to bite a staff member when she went to put the collar on”. Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that Nene is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER. He did not allow any touch or handling during his medical exam behavior he was also intolerant of handling (tried to bite). The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 5. Dog freezes Food 1. No interest. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog. Turns body to side in relation to other dog, or exits.
