BASIC INFO
Nena is a 5 year old Sharpei. Her family got her 5 years ago when she was left at their door (her owner is a super of an apt building). Due to unforeseen circumstances, he doesn’t have a place for his dogs anymore. He rehomed 7 of his 14 dogs and is surrendering the rest. Nena is the mother of King A1049278.
SOCIALIZATION
Nena is friendly and outgoing with strangers. She lived with a child who’s currently 5 years old and is relaxed, playful, and tolerant with him. She plays gently with people. Hennessy lived with 13 other large dogs. She’s relaxed and playful and plays exuberantly with other dogs of all sexes. She growls at cats outside of her fence. She’s never bit any people or animals.
BEHAVIOR
Nena doesn’t mind storms. She’s friendly with strangers who approach her home/family. She doesn’t mind when someone takes her food/treat/toy, moves her off furniture, holds/restrains her, wakes her up, or brushes her. She enjoys baths.
FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW
Nena’s family describes her as friendly, affectionate, playful, mellow and medium energy. They love that she’s obedient and attentive to her family. She follows his family around. She likes toys and plays chase. She loves to swim in her kiddie pool. She lived inside and ate dry Pedigree and Purina foods. She loves rice and beans. She’s housetrained and never has accidents. She potties on cement. She’s well-behaved while home alone. She is well-behaved while outside alone within her 8′ chain link fence for short periods of time. She’s crate-trained and does well in his crate during maintenance in his home. She knows sit and come. She went for brisk walks and didn’t pull much on her leash.
INTAKE
Nena had a soft body, open mouth, and wagging tail while we pet, scanned (-), collared, switched leashes, and positioned her for pictures. She took treats gently and walked nicely with us.
A volunteer writes:
Can you believe that Nena who is as dark as night is the mother of cream puff King, housed as well on our premises?? They are both gorgeous and have been so well cared for but surrendered to us as their owner lost his home where he housed 14 dogs, most of them rescued from the street. Nena is a beauty with amber eyes. She is dressed in the shiniest and lushest ebony coat. She seems to have been a mother quite a few times . Her figure tells us so. She looks like a rare black pearl, laying on her red blanket in her kennel. Nena comes right away to her door when she sees me iddling in front of her den. She wags her tail, her eyes meet mine. She is ready for a walk and company. She does not pull on the leash and eliminates as soon as we reach the yard. Nena is at first a bit reserved, even a little wary but accepts my caresses. Soon enough, she comes to “inspect’ me as i sit on a bench. She poses her head in my lap for more petting. We are getting there…She meets other dogs through the fence and seems fine with them. Nena lived in peace and played with 13(yes thirteen) other large dogs and i would hope that she will do great in our playgroups. Nena comes with excellent comments from her former family. She lived with a young child, was friendly to strangers, enjoyed baths, was house trained and not destructive when her people were away. In a nutshell, a beautiful and well mannered family dog. Sharpeis lovers..Here is your chance to meet a gorgeous gal…Come and spend time with her at the Manhattan Care Center and make her your forever best friend.
