05/13/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: So gorgeous and quiet in her kennel, I couldn’t wait to spend time with this beauty. Surrendered to our care by her family, we’re told she’s housetrained (yup, demonstrated the moment we were out the door), is shy when meeting new people but warms up quickly, has been with teenagers and is relaxed and playful, is well behaved when left home alone, likes balls and to play tug of war, has a low activity level, and knows commands in Spanish ‘sit’, ‘lay down’ and ‘go over there’. Taking an easy stroll to the park, Nena showed off her lovely leash manners and I got to admire her shiny coat and nicely rounded figure. Several people wanted to meet my beautiful companion, but as her former owner mentioned, although a bit shy she was always welcoming. A big Golden Retriever made a beeline for her when we were in the park, and nose to nose Nena had no reaction to this sudden intrusion of her space. Low key and quiet, and as stated by her former family, Nena is simply looking for a new bed in which to rest, easy walks, soft petting and a game of tug of war. If you don’t speak Spanish Nena will learn to respond to commands in English as she’s easy and eager to please. Nena (pronounced Nay-nah), is Spanish slang, a term of endearment equivalent to ‘sweetheart’. How fabulous that I already learned something new! Ask to meet our resident sweetheart today and you can teach each other to love in both Spanish and English! Love is a common language understood by all.
