A volunteer writes:  Beautiful Nena is “itching” to come out of her kennel. One step forward, two steps backward….She is very hesitant to stick her neck out and into the loop of my leash. She takes my treats, listens with a clueless face to my words …I failed miserably…Let’s try tomorrow…OK, here we go again. This time, Nena is a bit more valliant. Her head is at the door. A moment of innattention on her part…and she is leashed. Off we go to the yard and then to the street.Nena walks at a good pace and even eliminates. She is a bit shy but not at all scared. She is quite gorgeous, chunky but not obese and wears a magnificent thick, intact, shiny and slightly wavy coat. I love her markings and that friendly and naive face of hers. She seems to have been very well cared for. Nena likes to be caressed and will sit by my side after a few prompts. She does…of course like treats. She is a Rotie…..We nears MANY other dogs, big and small in the yard and outside. They do not seem to be a problem for Nena. Nena is now one of “my girls” here at the care center. I so hope that a wonderful life lays ahead of her, blessing a new owner or family with her lovely personality if her masters can not be found. Nena is at the Manhattan Care Center, wishing upon a star.A volunteer adds: Where did shy Nena go???? Two days down the line, I found a different dog than the one I had initially met..Such an outgoing girl, running through the yard, jumping after a ball and just being a happy pooch…Nena is so pretty although chunky and she looks so cozy, laying in the sun, comfortable and teasing a tennis ball between her paws. I am so glad that she recovered her spirit..Now, time for a new owner or family…Nena aced her behavioral evaluation and is just…ready to go and be your very forever best friend and playmate.
