03/16/15 16:23 Basic Info: Myrtle is a 2 1/2 year old female dog who was gotten from a breeder. She was hit by a car 2 years ago and broke her back leg. She does not walk with a limp but on rainy days or cold days she is sometimes stiff. Social Life and Personality: She has been around children and is relaxed and playful around them but does play somewhat rough at times when she gets excited. She has the same behavior around dogs but has not been around cats so his behaviors are unknown. She is house trained, kept mostly indoors, and has a high level of energy. Behaviors: She has not bitten anyone or any animal before. She will keep trying to eat food from the bowl if owner took it away but did not try to snap or growl. She has similar behavior when toys and treats were taken away. She was not bothered when given a bath or her coat being brushed but when unfamiliar people approached the house or family member she will have stiff body and will growl and bark. New Family Info: She knows the commands sit and stay. She is used to off leash walks and when off leash will wander. She plays with balls and ropes and plays tug and chase. She is crate trained and does well for 8 hours inside a wire crate with a plastic bottom. She is well behaved when left home alone and is terrified by loud noises such as fireworks or thunder. When she sees a balloon she is terrified and will hide and shake until it is gone. She was fed dry food. Intake Behavior: During intake the dog would retreat from extended hand and hide under the chair the owner was sitting in. Once the owner left he approached admission counselor and allowed to be collared, pictured, and leashed without aggression. When given treat was not interested.
03/18/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Myrtle took my breath away! She’s stunning and so quiet in her arrival kennel, and a bit confused as to why she’s with us. A bit shy at first, she happily came out for a walk, going potty as soon as we were out the door. Her former owner tells us she’s housetrained, knows ‘sit’ and ‘stay’, is crate trained, has been with children and is relaxed around them, doesn’t mind being brushed or bathed, and is scared of loud noises and balloons. Myrtle showed off her sit, and while she takes treats super gently, spit them out equally gently when they weren’t to her liking. Such a lady! She’s beautifully groomed in her tan coat, the perfect weight for her size, and when the boys wouldn’t let her play football with them, she became the star athletic cheerleader! Of course, I’m making that up, but she’s well built and stocky enough to be a quarterback smile emoticon She doesn’t mind being tethered for pictures, but keeps her tail tucked as she’s still shy, and then quietly watches as a dog approaches and passes us. Her leash manners are lovely and her good manners and stunning good looks garners admiring glances from all who passed us. We’re also told that she broke her leg 2 years ago, and can sometimes get a bit stiff in cold and rainy days. I felt like straightening my clothes and standing a bit taller with Myrtle by my side, she’s that stunning. If a low rider, stocky girl is your type, Myrtle is hoping you’ll stop to meet her. She’d love to start her happily every after with you, today.
