04/29/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: If you’ve looked at her picture and aren’t rushing down to adopt this cutie patootie… well… you may miss out on the cutest pup ever! She’s a wee bit shy so an experienced home where she can find her balance on her own timetable is recommended, but I don’t think it will take long at all. Likely housetrained, she takes advantage of being outside in every way, but she’s a puppy so may need a little reminder in her new home. She’s been gorgeously taken care of, her coat is beautifully groomed and such a unique color, her hazel eyes sparkle, she sits as soon as she sees a treat (her love of treats will make her easy to train), and she gives delicious hugs! I fell in love with her perfect paws which need some growing into, and it almost looks like she’s been to a salon for a mani/pedi (no polish). As we came back to the building after our walk we stopped to talk to a transport driver who left the front door of her van open. Myar jumped right in and sat down in the passenger seat, looking like she was waiting to leave. So cute!! Off leash in the backyard she comes when I call her after exploring the pen, jumps up on the bench for a hug and gives me that awesome smile. In group play she was a bit shy but interested in interacting with others. No puppy crazies here, just a shy, beautiful, nicely behaved little girl who aced her behavior assessment with great scores. If you’re the right person to allow Miss Myar to blossom at her own pace proving the structure, positive reinforcement training and love that she needs…she’s waiting to meet you.
04/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Myar walks with a fearful body language (tucked tail). She was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body, but trying to stay close. Myar was shy during handling, but had a fearful body language. Myar was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. She was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. Myar was not interested in toys but took the rawhide away but had soft body language. She does not approach other dog, attempts to exit. Myar is somewhat fearful and needs time to warm up to the handler. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, shy body language , mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. she does not place her body between you and the rawhide. Dog – dog 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog. Turns body to side in relation to other dog, or exits. Helper:A1034421
04/29/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Myar is a bit uncomfortable in the yard with another dog and explores the yard with a lowered tail. She does not engage in interaction beyond the initial greeting. 5/14 update: Myar is much more comfortable while socializing. She is bouncy, offering play bows and using her paws in attempts to solicit play. 5/24 update: Myar is polite upon greeting but is not interested in interacting any further even once solicited. 5/28 update: Myar engages in bouncy, running play with a solicitous female.
