09/28/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Mocha is all what you would want to see in a puppy. She is pretty, deliciously made, adorably sweet while lively, friendly and affectionate. She was brought to us by her “lifelong” owner who admitted not to be able, for the time being, to care for a pet but elaborated profusely on Mocha’s virtues. Of note is that Mocha, said to have a great personality, lived happily with a one year old little girl. Mocha is a bit shy in her kennel but accepts my leash right away. She strolls very nicely by my side and even does her business as we reach the yard. As per her former master, Mocha is not fully house trained yet. She is curious of other dogs met. Her neck stretches and her tail wags softly. She loves very much treats and sits beautifully on command for them. What a beautiful smile Mocha owns. Her face is so gentle… I have to have her on my lap and smooch her. Mocha does not mind. She is still just a babe at seven months of age. Mocha has been very well cared for. A sparkling diamond, pure and perfect. Mocha is a must to meet. Come at the Manhattan Care Center. Ask to see her and take her home.
09/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mocha came to our center as an owner surrender. Owner reports Mocha lived with her 1-year old and was playful and affectionate towards him. Mocha was slightly stressed during intake, crying and pacing after owner left. After being softly spoken to she warmed up and allowed all handling. Mocha walked nicely on leash for her relief walk, no pulling. She allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body soft. Mocha stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity, ears back, mouth closed, lip lick. She followed at the end of the leash, body soft, but became cautious at the end of game and did not want to approach assessor. Mocha did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts, sniffing assessor’s hand. She was briefly interested in Food bowl, but once assess-a-hand moved dish away, Mocha was reluctant and hesitant. She had no interest in Toy. Mocha kept a firm grip on Rawhide, body neutral. She whined when she saw helper dog, turned to exit and did not approach. Mocha jumped up on assessor and whined occasionally. Due to her nervousness, the Behavior Team feels Mocha would do best with an Experienced adopter. She may benefit initially from a calm, quiet, structured environment so she can relax and know what to expect in her new home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, mouth closed, ears back, lip lick. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, but became cautious after last pass and would not approach. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not pull back paw, sniffs hand, tail wag Food 1.
