12/01/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Missy came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER Missy came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Missy was distracted but not fearful during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Missy was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Missy appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (need coaxing to approach.) She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog licks, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Missy greets politely and is a bit bouncy but does not engage in play. She can become assertive and may attempt to mount.
11/21/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Missy greets well but can become assertive and attmept to mount other dogs. Based on her behavior during playgroup, the Behavior Department recommends that a pre-adoption interaction be required before placing Missy into a home with other dogs. Missy can be assertive which may make some other dogs uncomfortable. Missy greets at the gate with a soft body but is nervous. She briefly interacts with the other dog. 11/22 update: Missy greets the other dog appropriately but her body is tense and hackles raised. She wanders the pen and avoids most interactions. 11/25 update: Missy greets politely and is a bit bouncy but does not engage in play. She can become assertive and may attempt to mount. 12/1 update: Missy greets the other dog briefly before moving off to explore her surroundings. 12/4 update: Missy greets politely and offers appropriate correction to a sexually motivated male. Eventually, she becomes assertive and attempts to mount/jumps on the other dog. 12/5 update: Missy greets politely and seems interested but does not engage in play. She becomes a bit assertive and attempts to mount briefly. 12/7 update: Missy greets appropriately but has a stiff body posture- ears erect, head high. She does give an appropriate but hard correction for mounting behavior by the helper dog. She follows with a mount of her own.
