12/10/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
12/10/15 15:28 Behavior during intake: This dog was a little hesitant at the start of intake. She backed away and would hide under the chair when I came close. When I got down to her level she came over and allowed me to pet her. She was still nervous but she allowed me to pet her, collar her and take her photo. By the end of the process she was laying at my feet.
12/15/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: It’s not hard to imagine how Minnie got her name. She’s a tiny “pocket pit” at less than 40 pounds and has a miniature underbite that’s subtlety is absolutely precious. Arriving as a stray, Minnie was so shy and nervous, that she hid under a chair. By the end of the intake process, Minnie was laying at the counselor’s feet, content with her new friend. When I approached her kennel, I thought she was a puppy! Her bright eyes and small stature will keep her looking like a “baby” well into adulthood. And when I took her out, she was shy, nervous, rather submissive, even. After a few minutes in the yard, a few treats and the introduction of a new toy, Minnie was delighted to be have made a my acquaintance. She climbed up onto the bench with me, and was all cuddles and wags. Minnie is pleasant when meeting other dogs and even seems housetrained. Minnie might be small, but her heart is huge. Ask to meet her today!
12/12/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Minnie came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Minnie was nervous and shy, she did allow all handling. During SAFER Minnie came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Minnie joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Minnie was easy to handle when engaged with the items. In addition, we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Minnie be given the opportunity to interact at her own pace, so the behavior department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body a bit tense, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Minnie is a bit nervous and may sniff the other dog briefly. She becomes uncomfortable if the helper dog is too forward and offers correction.
