05/06/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Minnie came in as a stray surrender, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake she was reported to be sociable towards the counselors, and she was also reported to be tolerant of all handling during her medical exam. During SAFER Minnie was very sociable towards the assessor, and jumped up attempting to lick the assessors face when greeting. She allowed the assessor to conduct all handling items without issue, and was relaxed during the tag interaction. Minnie did show some concerns during the food item; stiffening and growling when being pushed out of the food bowl, but she was easy to handle when engaged with the toys and rawhide items. Due to the potential guarding behavior seen during the food item, Minnie would be best suited for an experienced adopter with no children, who is able to provide behavior modification work, should the behavior seen on SAFER occur in the home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog sniffs, then turns away. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the rawhide, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Minnie is interested in engaging with other dogs but is a bit nervous when greeting by a pushy and forward male. She will shy away but will then re-approach the other dog to continue interacting
