06/18/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/18/15 BASIC INFO Milo’s family got him from a neighbor when he was a puppy almost 4.5 years ago. They surrendered him because they moved to a home that doesn’t allow pets. SOCIALIZATION Milo hasn’t been socialized much with strangers. He lived with a child ages 5-10 and was relaxed, playful, and tolerant of him handling him. He growled at him when he approached while he ate his food. He plays exuberantly with people. He lived with a cat and was relaxed, playful, and tolerant with him. He chased other cats away that tried to swat his cat friend. He lunges and barks at dogs outside. He sometimes chases them away from his yard but comes back when his owner calls him. He bit someone once; years ago, a strange man that was climbing over his fence and he bit him in the buttocks (no more details known). BEHAVIOR Milo doesn’t mind storms. He plays when someone takes his treat/toy but snaps if someone takes his food. He doesn’t mind when someone moves him off furniture, holds/restrains him, wakes him up, or brushes him. He’s nervous and moves around during baths in the tub. He barks when strangers come over but leaves them alone when his family tells him it’s ok. He’s friendly if they approach and pet him. He’s friendly with strangers that approach his owner (e.g. on walks) nicely but growls and lunges if they seem threatening (e.g. they’re yelling). FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Milo’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, pushy, excitable, loyal, high energy, and a big cuddly bear. He likes bones, running, and playing tug. He follows his family around. He lived inside during winter and in the fenced yard during summer. He slept on a dog bed. He ate dry Pedigree food and enjoyed dog treats. He’s housetrained and doesn’t have accidents. He potties anywhere outside. He’s well-behaved when home alone in the house but pushes through his gate when alone in the yard. He knows sit, down, come, and stay. He went for brisk walks and played in the yard. He pulls hard on his leash. Off leash at the park, he wanders. His owners call him as soon as they see a dog in the distance, and he comes. INTAKE Milo had a loose wiggly body and wagging tail when I pet him and during pictures. He retreated slightly but allowed me to scan him (-). As a precaution, his owner collared him and put him in his kennel. Once inside, he lied down with a low body. Afterwards, he became reactive inside his kennel, barking and lunging.

06/24/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Milo was difficult to remove from his kennel showing teeth, growling and lunges at the rope. He did not show any social behavior. Once he was out of the kennel he stands tall, his hair was standing up along his back. Milo makes direct eye contact. He wrinkles his muzzle to expose his front teeth. He was growling loudly, grabbing at the leash and preparing to lunge forward to the handler. We behavior team decided to place him back in his kennel he was difficult to handle. Milo was brought to the shelter by a field officer. Milo owner said he has an attack command: “get em,” and will respond by charging and lunging. He hasn’t been socialized much”. According to the fiel officer Milo out of his kennel was difficult. He was lunging and growling, pushing at the door”.The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
