05/03/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
05/03/15 15:59 Milo was adopted from a shelter about 2 days ago and he is currently about 6 years old. Owner could no longer keep him due to a family conflict. Owner stated that he is calm, friendly, playful, affectionate, mellow, confident, and excitable. Owner states that he has been around children ages 1 to 13 years and that he was relaxed and tolerant and that he did not play with. He barked when strangers rang the doorbell, but he has been really friendly toward everyone he has passed by. He did live with a 6 year old male cat for the past 2 days, and owner states that he didn’t pay any attention to the cat. He has not bitten anyone or any other animals. He appears house-trained and he hasn’t had any accidents. During the intake he was very friendly. He kept trying to mount my leg, but when I stopped giving him attention, he did stop and he calmed down. He allowed petting and handling and he showed no signs of aggression. He scanned positive for a microchip. He took treats very gently from my hand.
05/06/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Milo is one of those special dogs who seem to have it all; gorgeous looks, sweet social skills and a wonderfully goofy play style, the kind of pup that you could picture just lighting up the life of his lucky new family. Milo himself must have felt like a million bucks the day he walked out the Care Center’s front door with his former adopters but unfortunately he walked right back in just two days later when they realized that after all, they were not ready to add a furry new member to their clan. But there’s no need to cry – their loss could be your incredible gain! Milo may be all grown-up but he’s still a puppy at heart and no one does ‘sad puppy eyes’ quite like him, whether waiting in his den for a walk or mooching on the ground with his ball beside him as a hint, this little guy really knows how to tug on those heartstrings. In his short time at home he hung out with children aged 1-13 years and was relaxed and tolerant with them. He barked like a good watchdog when strangers rang the doorbell but was nothing but friendly toward everyone he has passed on his walks and he didn’t pay any attention to the resident 6-year-old cat either – nothing fazes Mr Milo! Calm, friendly, playful, affectionate, mellow, confident, and excitable are the words they used to describe him and it’s all true and then some. Milo walks well on leash, seems extremely house trained, sits on command, likes other dogs, adores playing fetch and loooves belly rubs – what more could you ask? Don’t miss this opportunity to give a deserving pup his second chance. Come on in to our Manhattan Care Center and meet Magnificent Milo, the dog of your dreams!
05/06/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Milo did very well on his SAFER assessment but has shown some concerning behavior in a home environment. He is easily aroused when his human caretakers are yelling or fighting, and may growl in these instances. He has not escalated beyond a growl that we are aware of but this quick arousal and defensive response to the noise and activity makes the Behavior team members feel that placement with an experienced adopter who can make sure Milo remains below this threshold and can remove him from situations where he may become reactive is in Milo’s best interest. 4/30 SAFER: Milo pulls a bit on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Milo was calm and relaxed when playing tag with assessor. He was not interested in food but he took the toy and rawhide with a soft body language. Milo was relaxed when approaching a friendly dog, but was not playful. Milo was surrender to us. He’s spent time with lots of children (all ages-babies and older) and is relaxed, affectionate, and very tolerant with them, allowing them to climb on him. He plays exuberantly with all people.
