10/13/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
10/13/15 14:00 Basic information: Milky Way is an 8 month old Pit Bull who had to be surrendered because her previous owner was not allowed to have Pit bulls in her building. Her previous owner had her for 6 months. Milky Way has no known injuries or health problems. The two things her previous owner liked most about her were; she’s goofy and calm. Social Life and Personality: Milky Way is playful when she is around children but she tends to be mouthy. When she plays she is exuberant and somewhat rough. Around other dogs she is playful and exuberant when she plays; she lived in the home with another Pit bull. She is affectionate around cats. She is partially house-trained and has accidents a few times a week. She was kept mostly indoors and has a high activity level. She can be described as playful, confident, affectionate, and friendly. Behavior Issues: Milky Way has never bitten another animal or person. If someone touches her food bowl while she’s eating she continues eating at the same pace and is friendly. She is also friendly if someone tries to take her treat or toy away. She is friendly if pushed off the furniture. When given a bath she deals it but only likes the shower head. She can sit still and deal with her nails being trimmed. When her coat is brushed, an unfamiliar person approached the home or her previous owner she was friendly. She isn’t bothered if she is disturbed while sleeping. For a New Family to Know: Milky Way can sit and lay down on command. For exercise she went for brisk walks 4 times a day. Milky Way likes to play with squeaky toys. She was crate trained and does well for a whole night or a few hours during the day. When she was home, Milky Way would tend to follow her previous owners around. When left alone in the home she is well behaved. She ate both wet and dry dog food. At night she slept in her previous owner’s bed or in her play pen. Behavior During intake: Milky Way would try to hide and crouch when hand approached her face. She allowed staff to pet her and collar her without showing signs of aggression.
10/17/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I could be predictable and play off how sweet, soft and delicious a Milky Way is, comparing the candy bar to our Milky Way but I won’t 🙂 Our Milky Way is wrapped in a gorgeous milk chocolate color coat, well groomed and a perfect weight. Initially shy she warms up quickly, loves to play, loves to snuggle, and loves other dogs. In group play she’s social, playful and corrects appropriately if needed. She’s energetic and playful, getting the zoomies off leash in the backyard pen, chasing leaves, sticks and anything blowing that she could see. Going potty as soon as we were out the door on our way to the park M (for short)shows off both good leash manners, and then sometimes pulls a bit, but always checks up with me as she wags her tail. She’s definitely a sweet, soft morsel of delicious and is looking for an experienced person with whom to share the rest of her life. Her perfect size will make her a great fit in most living situations. She’ll need a little time to adjust to new things but figures it out quickly and will bond nicely with her new person. If you’re a lover of sweets, you’ll love our little girl. Ask to meet her today.
10/16/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Milky way walks calmly on leash. She was shy and nervous during handling, but had soft body language. Milky way was a bit fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. She became fearful while playing tag but was unresponsive to the touch. Milky way mouthed without applying pressure during squeeze item. She did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Milky way was not interested in toys or rawhide. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter. Milky way is somewhat fearful and needs time to warm up to the handler. Milky way has been showing fearful behavior and avoids interaction in the care center. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Milky way is more comfortable and settled in a home environment.
