07/20/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Midnight was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. She was calm & relaxed during handling and while playing tag. Midnight was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had neutral body language. She had no interest in toys and minimal interest in rawhide. Midnight was surrendered to the care center due to housing issues; upon intake she was excitable and slightly nervous, but was friendly and easy to handle. Midnight is reported to be affectionate and gentle with her family (adults & children), and did very well on his SAFER assessment, remaining social and friendly towards the assessor throughout. However, the owner reports a few concerns that will need to be addressed by future adopters. Midnight may growl and lunge when approached by strangers, potential adopters should be prepared for slow introductions and positive experiences with strangers. She may react poorly toward cats, while we have limited information on this, we do recommend a home without cats for the time being; she is also noted to be reactive toward dogs, and we have found during playgroup that Midnight can be tense and selective with other dogs, again we suggest slow and careful introductions. It was reported that she may have accidents in the home, future adopters should be prepared to work with her through housetraining; and ahe is reported to be destructive of certain items in the home when left alone. Again we have limited information on this behavior so we cannot determine whether it might be caused by anxiety, boredom, etc, but we recommend that Midnight be provided with high-value, engaging toys and food items when left alone in order to limit destruction of inappropriate items. Based on the reasons listed above & the recommendations given, the Behavior Dept recommends Midnight go to an experienced home. Look:1.Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back.
