Messi has been with the owner for 4 years and has no known medical conditions. Socialization Messi has lived with children ages 3 and 5 months. Messi is respectful around children and plays gently with them. Messi has never been socialized with cats or other dogs before. Around strangers Messi is a bit fearful and will back away. Messi loves to play and will play somewhat rough with adults by jumping up on them. Behavior During fireworks Messi will run and hide. Messi is well behaved when left in the house alone. Messi isn’t bothered with having his food bowl touched or toys and bones being taken away. Messi enjoys getting bathes and being brushed. When someone unfamiliar approaches the house Messi will bark but once they enter smell them and greet them. If Messi or his owners are approached by a stranger to fast Messi will become defensive and growl (has not bitten in the last 10 days). For the new family to know Messi was described as playful, loyal, anxious (outside) and Calm (indoors) with a medium activity level. Messi enjoys playing with balls, ropes and stuffed toys. Messi is house trained and behaves well when left in the house alone. When left in the yard alone Messi likes to dig holes. Messi knows the commands sit paw, other paw, down, side and other side. Messi eats grain free cosco brand food twice a day. Messi pulls lightly on the leash and when off the leash will wander forward but come back when called. 11/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Messi came to us as an owner surrender on 11/25/15. It was reported by the owner that Messi is very fearful and if anyone approaches him to quickly Messi will growl. The owner also stated that if strangers did approach him slowly Messi usually warms up quickly and will then allow to be pet. Messi has also lived with children and is reported to play gently with them. When entering the behavior room Messi can be seen with tense and fearful body language, and was weary of fast movements. Even though Messi displayed this behavior he was a bit interested in interacting with the assessor. He allowed the assessor to pet her slightly on his head and back, but at points would become tense. During the sensitivity test Messi became very stiff that she had frozen body language, and raised her lip at the assessor. For this reason the handling item was stopped as to not increase any stress for Messi and for safety. The behavior department advises that Messi should be placed with a rescue that can provide any positive behavior modification necessary before placement into a home. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is very stiff and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 5. Dog freezes, and raises lip. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, Messi appears unsure but greets the other dog well. He grows more confident and eventually seems interested but does not engage in play.
