I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 07/23/2015 from NY 11420, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

07/25/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Upon intake Merlot was reported to be attention seeking, and allowed a counselor to pet her. During SAFER Merlot was also very attention seeking, but when the “sensitivity” item was attempted, she became stiff and snapped at the assessor. Due to this behavior and safety concerns no other handling was attempted at this time. During the resources portion of the assessment Merlot was not interested in the food or toy items, but was easy to handle when engaged with the rawhides and relinquished the item to the assessor. Due to the behavior displayed on SAFER the department recommends placement with a New Hope partner who can further explore the behaviors displayed on SAFER as well as provide positive reinforcement behavior modification work before adoption into a permanent home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 5. Dog attempts to bite. Food: Inconclusive, dog is not eating. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish rawhide to you.

Off leash Merlot greets appropriately, but is a bit stiff. She is tolerant but a little anxious, mainly she explores the yard.
