***JUST A PUPPY***A volunteer writes: My photos do not do him justice….Indeed, Memphis is a natural beauty maintained and improved by the great care he got from his owner. Sadly, after seven months spent with a mother and her young child, nine month old Memphis had to be surrendered because of landlord issues but also because the little family had no time to care for a dog anymore… Memphis is the picture of health. His body is full, his plumpness is elegant, his coat is lush and silvery grey and his demeanor and looks are so puppy-like despite his size. When he sits on command for treat or no treat, he reminds me of Big Bird…I guess, because it is Easter…He is exuberant, enthusiastic, very playful and quite loving and needy. He is strong and certainly could knock a small child or elderly down..Not a mean bone, though in happy go lucky Memphis. He is just ready to play any tune with his caretaker, go for any adventure. He is game… Memphis comes with excellent comments from his prior master. Good with kids, strangers, other dogs, house trained and crate trained. He is basically a good, friendly, sociable and playful puppy who needs some training to perfect his natural nice disposition and bring him up to the pace with his new owner or family. Come and see puppy Memphis at the Manhattan Care Center, fall in love like I did and take him home as your forever best friend.

04/01/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/01/15 14:07 BASIC INFO Memphis’s family got him from a breeder 7 months ago and surrendered him because their landlord doesn’t allow large dogs and because they don’t have time for him. PEOPLE Memphis lived with an adult and a 6 year old child. He was relaxed, playful, tolerant, and played somewhat rough with the child (he knocked her over sometimes). He’s friendly with strangers and hasn’t bit anyone. ANIMALS Memphis went to the dog park once when he was younger and played exuberantly. PERSONALITY Memphis’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, handsome, obedient, confident, excitable, high activity, and a fast learner. He follows his family around. He likes bones and balls but chews toys apart if they’re not durable. He plays chase and tug. HABITS Memphis lived inside and slept in his kennel. He ate dry Beneful food. He went for slow walks and played in the yard for exercise. He pottied on cement. TRAINING Memphis is mostly housetrained but has an accident about once per week. Until he was about 5-6 months old, he used to chew furniture when he was home alone. Now his owner keeps him in a crate when he’s home alone and at night. It’s a wire pop-up crate and he does well inside for 8 hours. He chews whatever toys he has with him. He knows sit. BEHAVIOR Memphis jumps up on people to say hello. He has no other known behavior issues. He plays when someone takes his treat/toy and when someone brushes him. He’s friendly with strangers that approach his home/family. He sometimes barks at people that come over. He never sounds hard/growly, so his owner thinks he’s barking at them to get their attention. He doesn’t mind when someone takes his food, moves him off furniture, wakes him up, or holds/restrains him. He’s afraid during baths. He doesn’t mind storms. INTAKE Memphis had loose wiggly body, open mouth, and wagging tail during intake and handling-scan (negative), petting, collar, switching leashes, pictures. He jumped up on me/stood up against me often, leaning into me while I pet him. He sometimes lied flat on the floor panting. Other times, he rolled onto his side, still super wiggly, while I pet him. He tilted his head and closed his eyes while I scratched his neck.
