10/05/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A handsome hunk so soft and sweet his name must surely be short for Marshmallow, our boy Melo is the perfect companion for any occasion. Looking for a snuggle buddy to share TV nights on the couch? Call Melo! Searching for a sociable date to take to the dog run? Melo again! A stroll through the park? Sharing a snack? Lying blissfully in each others arms while a certain someone begs for more belly rubs? Melo’s your man! He simply loves everything and everyone and it’s no surprise when staff members stop to tell me how much they adore him too. Melo is all you could ask for in a pet, a dapper gentleman and a big mushy baby rolled into one stunning ebony package. He’s a great leash walker and seems quite house trained and his manners with other dogs of every shape and size are impeccable. Quiet in his den, gentle when taking treats or toys and never destructive, Melo knows commands for come, sit and stay and always responds promptly when asked — I simply can’t say a bad word about this guy, he’s that good! Melo is an amazing pet who deserves an equally amazing family and we’re all hoping he finds them soon…
10/01/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Melo pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. Melo was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He ate faster, was stiff and very difficult to push out of the food bowl, but did not growl, snap or bite. Melo was not interested in toys but took the rawhide with a stiff body language. Melo was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Merlo around strangers, Melo is friendly and outgoing. He loves children and plays well with them. He plays gently and exuberantly with both children and adults. He is not bothered when you try to take food or treats away food, treats, or toys away from him. The owner describes him as friendly, affectionate, excitable, independent, and playful. He has a high activity level outside and is more like a medium indoors”.Melo during the assessment appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. Melo shows a bit of concern during the food and rawhide test. He may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address this food guarding behavior. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. We also recommend a home without children Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2.
