06/27/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Mello is a compact little boy, a puppy still at ten months of age , we have at the Manhattan Care Center. He is sitting right behind his door, his lovely almond shaped eyes looking intensely into mine. Let’s go….There is not a minute to loose…I love to play…Mello is easy to leash and a great walker. He eliminates without marking and salutes little and big dogs during our stroll around the block. He does not chase birds or a bike almost running us over …on the sidewalk. Free in a pen, Mello shows me that he is a good listener. He comes right away when called, sits on command and even gives me his paw. He loves treats and will even search my goodies back for them. Mello knows what a ball is and plays quite well fetch and retrieve. He does not mind me taking the ball from his mouth… We end our time together with some lap time and I can truly say that in addition to be sociable, lively, well mannered and playful, Mello is quite an affectionate little guy… Come an meet him soon, spend time with him in the yard, fall in love and take himhome as your forever best friend. Another volunteer writes: Mello is an official “social greeter” in play groups, the dog who welcomes and initiates others into group play, adjusting his play style to whatever dog he’s with. How rockstar is that for a 10 month old puppy! Loving people as much as dogs, he’s a happy cuddler, loves treats and a good hug, is gorgeous, low key and amazing. While the play group team will be sorry to lose him once he’s adopted, he’ll be the perfect pup to add to your pack. Gorgeous, well behaved, in tune with his people as well as other dogs, Mello is amazing. If you’re still reading this and not on your way to adopt him……….
06/15/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mello came to our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. He pulled slightly on leash for his relief walk with puppy enthusiasm. Mello allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands with soft body. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body soft, mouth closed. Mello followed at the end of the leash, slightly engaging in play and jumping on assessor at the end of Tag game. He began displacement scratching in between Tag and Squeeze items. Mello gently pulled his paw back during both Squeeze attempts, wagging his tail throughout. He ate quickly but allowed Food dish to be moved away, and lifted his head after a bit of pressure from assess-a-hand. Mello enthusiastically played with Toy and settled with Rawhide, keeping a firm grip on both but maintaining a loose, wiggly body. He plays exuberantly with other dogs. The Behavior Team feels Mello would do well in an Average home. He is a young, high energy dog that may require daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of walks, runs, exercise, play, as well as kongs and nylabones to positively direct his puppy energy. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1.
