SAFER: NEW HOPE ONLY
Meeka came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was noted that Meeka was very nervous and showed teeth, also during her medical exam she was nervous but tolerated handling when wrapped in a blanket, but allowed some handling. During SAFER Meeka had a soft body on sensitivity, tag interaction she was distracted but not fearful, during paw squeeze Meeka lip raised and showed her teeth. On food item she only smelled it but wasn’t interested. Toy item Meeka snapped at the assess-a-hand with a tense body and rawhide she had minimal interest. The behavior department believes that Meeka would do best if placed with a new hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement behavior modification.
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, lick lips, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor.
Squeeze 1: 4. Dog lip raised and showed teeth to the Assessor’s hand on the first attempt while moving her paw away when the Assessor attempts to lift it. The dog will not allow the Assessor to assess a second time.
Food: 1. Minimal interest in food, dog smells, then turn away.
Toy: 5. Dog attempts to bite the assess-a-hand.
Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog smells, then turns away.
Dog-to-dog:When off leash with other dogs, Meeka initially is quite nervous and is overwhelmed when approached by greeting dogs. She warms up and explores the yard with a raised tail but when a dog greeting her long than just in passing she will offer a disproportionate correction.
PLAYGROUP BEHAVIOR:
When off leash with other dogs, Meeka initially is quite nervous and is overwhelmed when approached by greeting dogs. She warms up and explores the yard with a raised tail but when a dog greeting her long than just in passing she will offer a disproportionate correction.
