Social Life & Personality: Maybelline has been around children and interacted with them in a playful gentle manner. Maybelline is fearful of other dog and doesn’t interact with them well. She doesn’t get along with cats and will try to attack the cat if there is one in her presence. Maybelline isn’t house broken and will require training. She has accidents on a daily basis according to the caretaker. Maybelline is an indoor only dog that has a medium activity level. She is described to be friendly, playful, and affectionate. Behavior Issues: Maybelline Doesn’t have guarding issues when it comes to food and treats. These items can be given and taken away with no issues. However she does have issues when it comes to bones/rawhide and this shouldn’t be given to her. Give her a bone/rawhide she is fine but upon trying to take it back from her she will growl. She takes well to grooming agents like recieving a bath and having her coat brushed. The caretaker isn’t sure how she would respond to having her nails trimmed due to never attempting to trim her nails. Maybelline still requires to be house broken. For a New Family to Know: Maybelline doesn’t know any basic commands but to come according to the caretaker. She went for slow walks on a leash and this was done at least once per day. She enjoys dog toys and prefers squeaky/stuffed toys. When in the home Maybelline is the type to follow you around seeking attention. When left alone in the home She is well behaved minus her soiling the home. When left alone in the yard M

A volunteer writes: “Maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s Maybelline”, this slogan is synonymous with beauty, this name is quite fitting for Ms. Maybelline. Although she needs a bit of TLC and perhaps wasn’t well cared for in the past, she has an inner beauty and is full of love. Maybelline knows the sit command, walks well on leash, and takes treats very gently. When we took out the camera to take her picture she instinctively knew to look at the camera and even perked her cute ears up making for the perfect picture on the first try. Maybelline really enjoys walking and getting attention. She will make the perfect companion and best friend please come to SIACC and meet her.
07/14/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Maybelline came to our center after being found as a stray by a member of the public. Her Finder kept her for a week and reports she has been around Finder’s children and interacted in a playful manner. Finder also reports Maybelline will go after cats and is fearful of other dogs. Finder also reports Maybelline is not housebroken and will growl if you take away a bone or Rawhide. Maybelline pulled a bit on leash for her relief walk. She held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, tail wagging, body soft. Maybelline stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, ears back, tail wagging, soft body. She followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body soft. Maybelline gently pulled her paw back on both Squeeze attempts, tail wagging. She calmly allowed the Food dish to be moved away, and lifted her head out of the Food bowl when assess-a-hand was applied to her cheek. Maybelline had no interest in Toy, although Finder reports when she is relaxed she enjoys playing with soft and squeaky toys. She kept a firm grip on Rawhide, body a bit stiff. Maybelline walked towards the helper dog at an appropriate pace, tail at spine level, body relaxed. Due to her potential for possessive behavior regarding bones/rawhide, the Behavior Team feels Maybelline would do best in an Experienced home with no young children that will offer positive behavior modification if any guarding behaviors manifest in the home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body, tail wag. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is wagging with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not pull back paw, tail wag. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is a bit stiff. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip neutral.
